Organic Cotton Micro Dress in Tulum Elopement

June 1, 2021

As part of the collaboration project “Style Led Creatives” , I headed to Tulum in February 2021 for a portfolio builder for photographers to create a modern inspirational elopement. With a single colour palette of Indigo set against the lush green jungle backdrop of Tulum, this inspiration shoot is modern and eclectic.

The modern elopement started with a lifestyle session at the fabulous NEST TULUM. I loved the natural simplicity of this beachfront hotel and villa setting. If your looking for calm and authentic charm, Nest is worth a visit – I will certainly be heading back as there breakfast is exceptional and the setting is perfectly balanced natural style.

We started off our inspirational shoot with a lifestyle couple shoot with our models Adam & Adriana. The gorgeous light weight cotton dress worn by Adriana is from local Tulum boutique WANDERLUST TULUM I highly recommend a visit to Wanderlust if you are a fan of lightweight cotton dresses in gorgeous muted palettes ! Adriana wore Mayan inspired jewellery by Tulum designers ZAC BE TULUM, their boutique is magical filled with really unique pieces

Adam’s outfit is from Mens Lifestyle boutique in Tulum, IN THE MIDDLE. The store is filled with muted earth inspired linens and cotton outfits for the style conscious modern man. They also have an excellent range of accessories which Adam also wore to complete the Tulum effortless style.

Staying at NEST made it easy for our couple to get ready for the afternoons micro wedding shoot. The spacious rooms at NEST and great natural light were the perfect area for the Hair & Makeup team to get to work. Very important considerations when planning your elopement / micro wedding / shoot. ! Huge thanks here to local event coordinator ANGELINA CARDENAS for arranging the locations and looked after the team during our stay in TULUM. Angelina’s local connections were wonderful and helped keep everything running smoothly.

Back to NEST … There are lots of great areas for portraits at NEST making it a really great spot for an elopement / micro wedding / lifestyle shoot – couples planning elopements want everything documented so its great to have one location with lots of variety to photograph all the details / portraits, first look etc. US photographer The Bold Americana did a great job of making sure all the details were captured and has captured a great visual elopement story. Ive shared Emma’s gallery below so check out all the details below.

Onto the bridal shoot – I am passionate about reducing the waste in weddings and presenting more sustainable options for brides who are conscious of their wedding day choices. British Bridal Designers, MILLER WHITE provided us with the bridal looks for the shoot session. Their modern Micro dress’s are made from organic cotton and the company holds all the ethical credentials that we look for in bridal brands these days. Their micro dress designs are perfect for brides looking for a contemporary look – they are ideally suited for elopements ( no need to worry about creases when travelling with these dresses ) or choose as a second dress option for preceding events or honeymoon outfit ! Check their designs out over at Instagram

Adriana’s hair and makeup was created by Tulum based Zoe,

Our friends over at RHODES carved the most beautiful set of rings for this shoot, they are pure artisans and top on our list for bespoke rings.

The event design was created jointly by myself BUTLER & WHITE my dear friend and designer Maria Limon We opted for a single colour look which was completely different to the usual boho Tulum style seen frequently. Sometimes you just have to try something NEW and see what happens !

Layers of hand dyed textiles were used with organic shape plates upon the rustic wooden tables at NU. Modern paper designs were created by London based SIXFOLD STUDIO Im a huge fan of coloured glassware and the blue wine glasses from ARCHIVE RENTALS slotted in perfectly to the setting. Dried florals in various shades of blue add endless texture to the tablescape as arranged by MARIA LIMON alongside cascading lengths of blue neon tubing to add a contemporary twist to the installation created by EVENT TECHNOLOGY. Its a bold modern statement for a micro wedding in 2021.

The team from Event Technology set up two unique installations featuring blue neon lighting – these certainly grabbed peoples attention when passing by IZTIC & NU, the two properties we used for this section of the shoot. Both pieces were bespoke creations from Event Technology and their team did an outstanding job setting everything up on the day to create maximum impact within the setting.

Please be seated ! I am obsessed with event chairs and finding the right ones and lucky for us MINIMAL4.0 have a great range of rental chairs available for TULUM events. It can be really frustrating to be faced with limited chairs choices as they really can make or break the overall impact of the setting.

ENOUGH from me, you just want to scroll through the images and dive into the magic that is TULUM dont you ?

So here it is – created during a pandemic, overcoming the closing of borders, the cancelling of international flights / PCR tests and all the hurdle, oh yeh and a heavy tropical STORM !!! … its good to step outside of your comfort zone, try something new and see what comes up for you. Be Brave, Be Creative !
