Im never far from the waters edge and the beach has always been a huge inspiration to me. I spent most of my years at art college collecting seaweed, shells, old rope & drift wood from Sussex beaches. I simply adore the weathered & worn effect & a winters beach day is simply devine to me.
When I discovered that Malaga based photographer Mireia Cordomi http://www.mireiacordomi.com
shared the same passion for simple textures, devine light & organic styling I knew we had to head to the beach together for a wedding inspirational shoot.
We picked probably the coldest day Ive ever known in Southern Spain in February this year to head to the beach with a beautiful family & a bunch of props. I wanted to create a simple setting that highlighted the beauty of the natural setting & show an organic wedding style and the coast line just outside of Casares was the just the spot.
Our lovely young family love the beach and living in Estepona they spend a lot of their free time hanging out and enjoying picnics on the beach. We wanted their lifestyle to be reflected in the images, so kept everything simple with a bohemian vibe. Jessie told me that this was the style of wedding that she had actually wanted but ended up going down the more traditional wedding venue style in the UK.
My wonderful friend Catarina Zimbarra created this stunning ocean inspired stationery for us. I love the watercolour effect combined with the calligraphy. http://www.catarinazimbarra.com
Ive used moroccan influences alongside european vintage pieces, all of which show signs of wear, tarnish and ageing, as if they were washed up on the beach. I love the vintage shell handle cutlery which gently rests on the cutglass dinner plates. I adore textures and creating contrasts & this shoot is full of both.
The team at Glow & Bubbly in Estepona, created soft beach curls & boho plaits for both Jessie & her gorgeous daughter Luca in their salon as well creating their makeup look. Both mother & daughter have beautiful long hair so we wanted the look left long and relaxed.
The tablescape is dinner for two with a separate picnic area setup for their 3 kids, both enjoying the wonderful sea views and the distant coastline of Morocco. The styling for the table is quite raw & organic which I think fits perfectly within a beach setting. Stems of lunaria are added to a black glass decanter alongside drift wood pieces, dried grasses and the most beautiful oyster shell. Beach treasures we call this in my house (we love beach combing) so I added a vintage cutglass box between the two place settings and filled with other treasures.
What drew me to Mireira’s wedding photography was her intense passion for capturing the details : every detail ! As a wedding stylist she is such a dream to work with as she notices every fabric fold, every frayed ribbon edge , every wax drip. Mireia turns these abstract details into pure visual heaven. What made this shoot so magical for me was that Mireira was shooting with film so I had no idea what the results would be, I of course knew they would be Wow !! Which I think they really are, double WOW !
The super talented Fiona from Sweet Things By Fi created this simple pebble grey & hand painted gold cake. The simplicity of this cake is perfect against the natural rock backdrop and beach pebbles. Presented on a large moroccan tray just as a little reminder that Morocco is just a boat ride away. Its a perfect combination. http://www.sweetthingsbyfi.com
Muted colour colour palettes & contrasting textures are the perfect subject matter for a film photographer.
I adore all the images and I have to admit that any kind of elopement, intimate wedding or vow renewal near the waters edge is just my idea of heaven. This shoot was very much an organic pull it all together kind of event, which suits my style of working. We were lucky to have such a wonderful family to work with , Jessie was a little camera shy but thats real life and I think she looks beautiful in all the shots. You wouldn’t believe how cold it was that day as their is so much warmth in all the stunning images, Mireia is a photographic gem & captured the story perfectly ! Hope you enjoyed this slice of inspiration.
Beautiful spanish sunsets “the golden hour” every wedding photographer craves.
Thank you to the small team behind this shoot in Southern Spain.
